The day Pak Soeharto passed away

January 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

Since yesterday, the news was all about him. How he died and, most importantly, how he had lived his life. Yes, he has made some mistakes, just like the rest of us. And yes, he also made some good deeds which need to be remembered. All the controversy only show us how he was still so influential even until the last day of his life. Some people still hate him until today. Yet most people can’t forget his smile. Now that he’s gone, I wonder what will happen to his family, to Indonesia, and to the world.

Just like what we did to everybody else who has gone before us, we bid our final farewell. Goodbye, Pak Harto!

Counter Photography Exhibition

January 26, 2008 · 3 Comments

If you love photography, especially the ones from Japanese photographers, you may want to visit this exhibition, titled Counter Photography Exhibition. This exhibition introducing the works of some of Japanese contemporary photographers such as Eikoh Hosoe, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Miho Akioka, Miyuki Ichikawa, Akiko Ugiyama, Chie Yasuda, Kazuo Katase, Hiroko Noue, Tomoko Yoneda, Tomoaki Ishihara and Ichiharu Shimabuku.

The exhibition will be held in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Jalan Bukit Pakar Timur No.100, Bandung, Indonesia. The exhibition will run from 18 January until 10 February 2008.

Here’s a quote from the website of Selasar Sunaryo:

The present touring exhibition, “Counter-Photography: Japan’s Artists Today”, introduces photographic works by 11 Japanese artists. The common theme that links these works is the photographers desire to capture a world invisible to the human eye–the world of “the spirit”. Such an attitude reflects the traditional Japanese approach to life, in which all objects are perceived to have a “spiritual” aspect. We hope that the works brought together in this exhibition reflect not only the variety of methods of photographic expression used by contemporary Japanese artists, but also the unique “spirit” of each individual photographer.
